Police claim to have arrested eight men, who they said belonged to a criminal gang, on Thursday.
They say stolen items worth millions of rupees have been recovered from them.
Ameer Nasir Javed, the police spokesperson, said that a number of complaints had been received against the Shabbira gang. He said the police had been trying to arrest the men for over a year.
He said the police team that made the arrests was supervised by Lyallpur Town Superintendent Sahibzada Bilal Umar.
He said the SP and Gulberg Station House Officer Inspector Aamir Waheed raided several areas of the city and arrested three of the gang members- later identified as Muhammad Shabbir Jutt, Zeeshan and Safdar Jutt. The rest of the men- identified as Farhan alias Fari, Saeed Ahmad Khan, Rizwan Butt, Babar Khan and Akbar Mughal- were later arrested using information obtained from the three.
Police said cases had been traced against them at Jhang Bazaar, Saddar, Dijkot and Mansoorabad stations. Police said they had also recovered a stolen car, two motorcycles, several mobile phones and three pistols from those arrested.
