A child, 11, was run over by a speeding vehicle that allegedly belonged to a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate from PP-64.
The candidate, Nadeem Aftab Sindhu, was on his way to a polling station when a child ran in front of the car near Chak No.54-GB, the police told The Express Tribune.
“The driver of the vehicle applied the brakes but it was too late,” said the police, adding that the child had died on the spot. Muhammad Akram, a witness who was on his way to cast his vote, told The Express Tribune that Sindhu’s driver was “driving rashly”.
Sindhu’s driver pulled over and the PPP candidate also stepped out of the car. A number of people gathered and started shouting at Sindhu.
The police told him to leave. The police said they had done so to ensure Sindhu’s safety. They said that the child’s family had taken him to the hospital and had yet to file an application for the registration of an FIR.
