Samundri police registered cases against 28 people, including an independent candidate from PP-60, Maj (retired) Muhammad Akram, for alleged rigging.
Police said Maj Akram and his supporters had beaten up a PML-N candidate, Rao Kashif, for trying to influence voters at the Government Boys High School, City Sammandri.
They said the assailants also injured three other men, including Kashif’s brother Rao Asif. They also allegedly help-up the polling staff and a guard, resulting in suspension of polling.
Polling resumed after more than an hour when Returning Officer Iqbal Goraya and a police team visited the station. Witnesses said the assailants had left shortly before police arrived.
Cases were registered against 28 men under Sections 395, 440, 353, 183, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (mischief, assault, rioting and unlawful assembly) and Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act. No one has been arrested so far.
