LAHORE:

A consumer court has directed a courier service to pay damages and reimburse a customer who had tried to send new clothes to his children in the United Kingdom in time for Eidul Azha.

Petitioner Ehsanul Haq Khan told the court that on November 5, 2010, he had paid Zubairul Abideen and Umar Ziauddin, representatives of DHL International, Rs4,500 to deliver the clothes to the UK, on the assurance that they would be delivered within three days.

He said that the clothes did not arrive in three days so he went to the respondent’s office to complain. He was then assured that the clothes would reach thir destination within a day, but they did not. As a result, he said, his children were not able to celebrate Eidul Azha. The clothes arrived after Eid.

The petitioner sought Rs100,000 as damages and the reimbursement of the Rs4,500 fee. The court directed DHL International to pay Rs20,000 as damages and return the Rs4,500.
