District Coordination Officer Rizwan Mehboob has ordered officials to check Union Council 131 after a confirmed case of dengue fever was reported in the area.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the DCO ordered the town administrator and health officer concerned to conduct thorough surveillance of the area for mosquito-breeding sites.
Mehboob directed town administrators to visit under-construction sites and prominent buildings and check for the presence of dengue mosquito larvae. He said that officials must remain vigilant for dengue mosquito breeding sites in May, as the atmosphere was conducive to larvae growth.
The executive district officer for health briefed the DCO about the arrangements made so far to check an outbreak of the disease. “An anti-dengue campaign is being pursued aggressively in all the towns of the city,” the EDO said.
He said that 524 cases had been registered and 40 people arrested for failure to cooperate in the anti-dengue drive.
The DCO also directed the town administrators to conduct weekly meetings to discuss dengue, and to seal any locations where mosquito larvae are found.
The meeting at the Town Hall was also attended by assistant commissioners, deputy district officers for health and town municipal officers.
