Epidemic: 30 beds reserved for measles patients at BVH, Civil Hospital

BAHAWALPUR: 

As many as 30 beds at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Civil Hospital have been allocated for measles patients, participants of a meeting of district officials and the Health Department were informed on Friday.

Four beds each have been reserved for the purpose at tehsil headquarters hospitals.

District Coordination Officer Imran Sikandar Baloch had called the meeting at his office to discuss the arrangements for treatment and control of measles.

Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Shahid Khaleeq, Deputy District Officer (Health) Saeed Asghar and EDO (city district) Najaf Abbas Bukhari were present.

DCO Baloch stressed the need for creating awareness among parents.

He directed the officers concerned to ensure the availability of vaccines and other medicines to every child in the district.

He also directed them to ask people to consult doctors at the nearest hospital if a child had symptoms of measles that include high fever, redness of eyes and rashes on the body.

He also told the officers to send lady health workers and nutritionists door-to-door to inform and educate parents, especially mothers. He also suggested sending monitoring teams to survey the areas for measles cases. He said teachers should also be told to educate students about the disease.

The health EDO briefed the meeting about the arrangements at public hospitals and about provision of medicines.
