An anti terrorism court (ATC) on Friday awarded death to a woman, who was found guilty of kidnapping a tehsil municipal officer for ransom. While earlier at large, police said her accomplice was arrested on Friday evening.
They said Rashida Khalid, a resident of Gulshan-i-Ravi in Lahore, and Ataullah had visited Chak Jhurma tehsil municipal officer Nusrat Eman’s house on August 22, 2012, and introduced themselves as correspondents for a television channel wanting to interview him.
They said when the tehsil municipal officer took them on a drive, they intoxicated him and took him away. They later demanded that his family pay them Rs3.5 million as ransom.
Police said Rashida Khalid was arrested two weeks later after police tracked her down through the mobile phone SIM she had used to call the family. They said they her raided her house.
The tehsil municipal officer was recovered.
Judge Arshad Masood also ordered confiscation of all the convict’s assets.
