The Lahore High Court on Friday became a battleground once again for the families of a couple that had gotten married without their consent.
Naeem Akram and Sonia had married against their parents’ wishes. Sonia’s parents had then registered a case against Akram for kidnapping their daughter. Akram challenged the complaint in the court and Sonia testified saying she had not been kidnapped and had married Akram of her free will.
The court then quashed the FIR and permitted Sonia to go with her husband. As the couple and their families exited the courtroom, they exchanged harsh words that turned into brawl.
Sonia and Akram received minor injuries. The LHC security intervened and calmed the two families. A case later was registered against both families with the Old Anarkali police.
