Uch Sharif police arrested 10 men and a woman on Tuesday for drug dealing. A kilogram of heroine and 1,362 litres of liquor, recovered from those arrested, were seized. Station House Officer Ghanzanfar Ali told The Express Tribune that Manzooran Mai was heading a drug peddlers’ gang in the area.
He said police had been looking for her for some time. He said she was caught red-handed at the Uch Sharif bus station shortly after she arrived from Rahim Yar Khan. Manzooran Mai denied the allegations. She told police that Bakhto Mai, a woman who was travelling with her had apparently been carrying heroine, which, she said, she (Bakhto Mai) put in her bag on seeing the police at the station.
Police had initially arrested both the women, however, they later let Bakhto Mai go when she raised hue-and-cry for “being arrested without any reason”. Also on Tuesday, police arrested 10 men during raids in various parts of the city and seized 1,362 litres of liquor from them.
