LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued arrest warrants for Efroze Chemical’s managing director Nadir Feroze and manager Shakeel Nagra for not attending proceedings of the Punjab government’s appeal for cancellation of their bail in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) spurious medicines case.

More than 200 patients had died in 2012 after they took tainted Isotab available at the PIC pharmacy. A judicial tribunal had held Efroze Chemicals (the manufacturers of the drug), the PIC and the health department responsible in its 273-page inquiry report.

An additional prosecutor general, Abdul Samad, argued that the accused had been found guilty by the police and in a judicial inquiry. He requested the court to revoke the bail. The court has issued several notices to Feroze and Nagra but they, and their counsel, have been absent for several hearings.
