Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government would launch a pilot health insurance scheme in four districts. It would be gradually extended to other districts. Data from NADRA would be used to ensure that only very poor people benefited from the scheme.
He announced this at meeting to discuss ongoing and new initiatives in the province. Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Tanveer Aslam Malik, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, the chief secretary, planning and development chairman and senior officers attended the meeting.
Considering the success of the laptop distribution programme, the government has decided to distribute tablets among high achieving students. Sharif said digital libraries would also be established in schools and colleges.
He said a solid waste management system would be extended to six other districts. It would be introduced in rural areas, he added.
He said that he had constituted a committee to make the internship programme more effective.
