A consumer court has issued notice to the proprietor of Bilal Engineering for September 24 in a suit seeking damages of Rs800,000 from the company for allegedly selling a defective generator.
Petitioner Waqar Ahmed submitted that on April 16, he paid the company Rs200,000 for a 300KVA generator. Respondent Kashif Gilani had assured him that the company would be responsible for any fault in the machine, he said.
The petitioner said that a few days after it was delivered, the generator stopped working.
He complained to the respondent, but he refused to repair it.
He said he also later found out that the generator had a 250KVA capacity, not 300KVA. He asked the court to direct the respondent to pay him Rs800,000 in damages for “mental agony”.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Gillani said that the petitioner was lying and he would present evidence to this effect in the court.
He said that the sale agreement was for a 250KVA generator, not a 300KVA generator. The petitioner had brought a mechanic with him when he came to the shop to buy the generator, and the mechanic had examined and approved of the machine, he said. He added that his team had repaired some minor faults in the generator, but the petitioner was demanding a new machine.
