LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court here on Thursday issued notice on a petition by the Punjab government asking for the bail of Zubair Ahmed, who is accused of involvement in the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team four years ago, to be cancelled.

The bench then referred the petition to the chief justice to put before another bench, as Justice Abdus Sami Khan recused himself from the case for personal reasons. Earlier, the prosecutor submitted that there was CCTV footage of the attack showing Ahmed at the scene. A policeman had also identified him in an identification parade. Another accused named Dr Usman, who was involved in an attack on General Headquarters, was arrested on information gained from Ahmed, he added. The prosecutor said that an anti-terrorism court had granted Ahmed bail without considering the evidence. He asked the court to cancel Ahmed’s bail.
