Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Umar Ata Bandial has asked Jamaatud Dawa leader Hafiz Saeed’s lawyer to argue his case in terms of international law.
The CJ was holding proceedings on a petition filed by Saeed seeking directions to the federal government to provide him legal assistance before a US court like it is providing to the former chief of the ISI and others. The court adjourned the hearing till March 7.
An amicus curiae on Friday suggested the federal government should not provide legal assistance to Saeed on a suit filed by relatives of US nationals killed in Mumbai attacks. Amicus curiae Ahmar Bilal Sufi pointed out that India had tried to link Pakistan with Al-Qaeda and filed a suit in a US court accusing Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism.
