LAHORE: As many as nine counters were established at major bus stands and railway stations on Sunday to register dengue fever patients entering the city.

The counters will register patients travelling with fever and take down their addresses. Drivers, conductors and fellow passengers have been asked to report patients who do not register at the counters.

Two counters have been set up at the Badami Bagh Lorry Adda, one at the City railway station, one at the Daewoo terminal, one at Thokar Niaz Baig terminal and others at bus stations near Yateem Khana.

Information from these counters would be forwarded to deputy district officers and assistant commissioners of various towns.

Officials would then visit the areas and take blood samples to test the people for dengue fever. If dengue fever is detected, the patients would be taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Also, on Sunday, the city government sealed four buildings as a part of the anti-dengue fever campaign. A Caltex petrol station and a warehouse on Multan road were sealed and Mama Sweet Corner and Karachi Nihari at Muslim Town were also shut down. FIRs were lodged against their owners.

The Miani Sahib graveyard administrator, Muhammad Idrees, was removed from his post after dengue mosquito larvae were found from the area.

The city government has also announced a Rs2,000 cash reward for anybody pointing out a larvae site.

DCO Naseem Sadiq is monitoring the campaign.

City government’s PRO Imran Maqbool said the passenger resgistration counters would also help the city government to contain the threat of another dengue fever epidemic.
