Unsafe structures: Four killed, 15 injured as buildings collapse

LAHORE: 

Four people were killed and 15 injured as five buildings collapsed due to heavy rain on Sunday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

Six people were trapped under debris when the roof of a house at Jammu Stop on Bedian Road, in Burki police jurisdiction, collapsed during a wedding ceremony. Two of them, both children, died while the four others are in stable condition in hospital.

The roof of a house on Kacha Kamahan Road also caved in on six people, including two children. Rescuers pulled them from the debris. All six were injured, but none critically.

A man died and another was injured when the wall of a house collapsed in Dhobi Mohalla near Rafique Bakers in Baghbanpura police jurisdiction. Rescuers took the men to a hospital, where doctors pronounced one of them as dead on arrival. The other is still under treatment and in a stable condition.

Three people were injured when the roof of a house caved in at Street 7, Ittehad Park, Ferozepur Road near Chungi Amar Sidhu Stop. They are recuperating from their injuries at Lahore General Hospital.

A man died and another was injured when the roof caved in on them at a house on Street 3 near Misri Shah Chowk. Rescuers recovered the body and sent the injured man to Mayo Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.

The Meteorological Department of Pakistan has forecast cloudy weather in the next four days. Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most of the province over the next 24 hours, with thundershowers expected in isolated places in northeast Punjab (Rawalpindi Gujranwala and Lahore divisions).
