LAHORE:

Artist Annem Zaidi presented her art on Monday at her first solo exhibition titled Being Natural is Simply a Pose.

The exhibition was attended by art enthusiasts, collectors, students and people from the different walks of life.

As many as 10 pieces of oil on canvas were exhibited where the artist beautifully painted attire using the white oil paints in the foreground and black oil paints in the background.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Zaidi said, “My work focuses on different aspects of women. My art focuses on the mysterious nature of women. Since I use photographic references in my work, there is a theatrical element to the paintings as well.”

Critic Quddus Mirza said, “Annem’s work stems from a personal narrative and envelopes a larger issue. Female figures painted in thought-provoking ways become a representative of an idea to which many can relate.”

Sanam Taseer, the owner and curator of Taseer Art Gallery, said, “Annem’s work is about the essence of a woman. Her art pieces are a blend of the ephemeral and the substantial.”

Painter Julias John, said, “Annem has beautifully painted the female attire. The way she plays with the black paint in the background is wonderful. There is an ambiguity in the paintings which leaves ample room for interpretation.”

Artist Bilal Ashraf Butt, said, “At a glance, Annem’s work focuses on the female form. But there is a depth to her work that creates mystery for the viewer.”

The exhibition will be open till August 27.
