LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday set aside the registrar for cooperative societies’ (RCS) order to the Model Town Society to restore the power supply to residential buildings being used for commercial purposes. Chief Justiuce Umar Ata Badial, while disposing of the society’s appeal against the registrar’s order, directed all aggrieved parties to approach the RCS, who would decide each case on merit.

The society had served notices to various businesses for using residential premises for commercial purposes threatening to cut off their power supply under various by-laws. The society later cut off their electricity, after which the alleged violators approached the registrar. On June 6, the registrar directed the society to restore the power supply. The Model Town Society then appealed the order at the LHC.

The chief justice disposed of all the appeals and directed the aggrieved parties to approach the registrar, who will consider their cases afresh.
