FAISALABAD:

The Environment Department on Monday inspected a junkyard as part of the anti-dengue campaign and found dengue mosquito larvae.

The Environment Department has been conducting regular raids at tyre shops, junkyards and plant nurseries. Owners of high risk buildings have been issued directions to take stringent measures to keep them clean.

The department, during one of its routine raids, detected dengue larvae at the M Yameen Kabar Khana (junkyard), near Novelty Bridge on Monday.

Environment District Officer (DO) Mian Muhammad Nawaz told The Express Tribune that Enforcement Inspectors Siddique Rana, Mazhar Fareed, Muhammad Afzal and Moaz Maroof had inspected 16 junkyards and nine tyre shops on Monday and found larvae in a junkyard.

Strict action was taken against the junkyard owners. FIRs were registered against five junkyard owners Muhammad Yameen, Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Anwar and Pervaiz Iqbal for poor sanitation. “The owners of nine junkyards have also been warned to keep the junkyards clean,” he said.

The DO said that the inspectors had removed tyres from the rooftops of nine shops, scrap metal from two junkyards and drained stagnant water from four areas. They fumigated three localities and distributed awareness pamphlets to 35 people, he said.
