MULTAN:

“A record 2,057 cases have been registered by the Multan drug court over the last three years and Rs42.5 million fines recovered from violators,” Mahr Zameer Hussain Sandhal, the outgoing chairman of Multan drug court, said on Friday.

He was speaking at a ceremony organised by the District Bar Association (DBA) here at the Bar Hall to welcome the new chairman, Hafiz Allah Ditta Kashif Bosan.

DBA General Secretary Imran Rasheed Sulehri praised the outgoing chairman. He said there were 873 pending cases when Sandhal took over the office.

“1,500 more cases were brought during the last three years…today there are just around 300 pending cases,” he said.

Bosan said the judiciary was independent today on account of sacrifices made by the lawyers.

Bosan, who has also served as Multan Bar Association president, praised Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Sandhal said that he was happy to be back among his colleagues at the district bar. He advised young lawyers to work hard. DBA President Mumtaz Noor Tangra welcomed Bosan and wished him success. He also welcomed judges who had recently been transferred to Multan district. These included Additional District and Sessions Judges Humairauz Zahra, Asim Mansoor and Bilal Baig.     Acting District and Sessions Judge Syed Zafar Abbas Sabzwari, the additional district and sessions judges and civil judges also attended the ceremony.
