The Ajoka theatre group, in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council, will stage two plays to mark the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The theatre group will perform Bulha and Hotel Mohenjodaro at Alhamra Arts Gallery on The Mall, on September 11 and 12.
“These plays have a certain significance,” Playwright Shahid Nadeem said, “The attacks had triggered a ‘clash of civilisations’ that had led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. 9/11 also calls for introspection. Ajoka wants to take its audience on a journey to find a better course for the future.”
Madeeha Gauhar, the director of Bullah, said, “Bullah, is Ajoka’s most popular play.” She said that Bulleh Shah was an advocate of humanity Gauhar said, “Hotel Mohenjodaro is based on Ghulam Abbas’s short story Dhanak. The story resonates with present-day realities.” “The story- grim and disturbing- inspires you to change the way it ends,” she said.
Bulha was first staged in March, 2001, and Hotel Mohenjodaro in April, 2008.
