FAISALABAD:

A boy, in his teens, was shot dead during a robbery on Thursday when he tried to escape. His father and brothers, who tried to stop the robbers, were injured.

Madina Town police said that five armed men broke into the house of Muhammad Sharif in Chak 208-RB. They held the family hostage at gunpoint.

Police said four of robbers started looking for cash and valuables in the house as their fifth accomplice held up the family.

When Sharif’s son, Rizwan, tried to flee towards the terrace, the robber shot him. When Sharif and his other sons, Irfan, Imran, tried to overpower the robber, they were shot, too.

On hearing the gunshots, police said, the rest of the robbers rushed into the room. They took their accomplice and fled.

The injured were taken to district headquarters hospital, but Rizwan died on the way. Doctors said Irfan was in critical condition.

Dr Ali Raza, duty officer at the emergency ward, said that Irfan had been kept under intensive care. He said Sharif and Imran were out of danger.

Madina Town station house officer said that a case had been registered under Section 302 and 397 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Muhammad Sufiyan, cousin of the deceased. The station house officer said that a police team was looking for the robbers.

Muhammad Akram, a neighbour, said that several residents of the area had requested the police to set up a picket in the area.
