The Lahore High Court on Friday set aside the ruling of a trial court and acquitted three people convicted of murder giving them the benefit of doubt.
A division bench headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik passed the order on an appeal moved by Muhammad Zubair, Shamoon and Asad Ali, residents of Sialkot.
The appellants’ counsel said two women had been killed in Sialkot during a robbery. He said the police had arrested the appellants and the trial court had sentenced Zubair and Shamoon to death and Asad Ali to life imprisonment, a juvenile.
He said the trial court had ignored contradictions between witnesses’ statements and the other evidence. After hearing arguments and pursuing the record, the court acquitted the three men giving them benefit of doubt.
