The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to the federal and provincial governments on a petition demanding legislation on the use of the national flag.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that other countries had laws on respect for their flags.
He said the Lahore Waste Management Company had printed monographs of the national flag on dustbins and garbage vehicles, which was “an insult to nationalist sentiments”.
He asked the court to instruct the governments to pass laws on the use of the flag, and to remove the monogram from garbage containers and vehicles. The petitioner also asked the court to assign blame fornon those responsible for the “insult”.
The court, after hearing the initial arguments, directed the respondents to submit their replies within two weeks.
