Development Schemes: Six road projects approved

The Punjab government on Saturday approved spending of Rs4,504.857 million on the widening and improvement of the road from the Bahawalpur bypass to Chungi No 9 in Multan.

Five other development schemes, for road improvement and the building of a bridge over the Ravi, worth Rs8,210.924 million were also approved at the 31st meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party in 2012-13.

According to a Planning and Development Board spokesperson, the other projects approved were the dualisation of 33 kilometres of the Muridke-Narowal road in Narowal district at a cost of Rs1,474.300 million on; improvement of the same road in Sheikhupura district at a cost of Rs2,092.657 million; restoration of the road from Jhika Galli to Murree, which had been damaged due to landslides, at a cost of Rs1,005.883 million; the widening of 107.82 kilometres of road from Lahore to Jaranwala, Faisalabad, Jhang, Bhakkar, and Darya Khan Art in District Bhakkar at a cost of Rs1,193.796 million; and the construction of a bridge over the River Ravi at Qutab Shahana, Sahiwal district, at a cost of Rs2,444.288 million.

The meeting was presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Javaid Aslam. Planning and Development Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch and others attended the meeting.
