One month after a man was found killed in a public park, Razabad police on Wednesday arrested his son, who they said, had confessed to the killing.
Police said the man had killed his father for divorcing his (suspect’s) mother.
Police said Ghulam Sarwar, a resident of Razabad, had been found killed under mysterious circumstances in a park on the eve of Eidul Azha. His family had said that he had gone to buy sacrificial animal and had been killed by some robbers who had apparently tried to steal the animal.
Police had registered an FIR against unidentified assailants.
The city police officer had directed Razabad Station House Officer Asim Rasheed to investigate the matter. A team, comprising the SHO, in charge of investigation Khwaja Imran Manna, Sub Inspector Fazal Hussain and Assistant Sub Inspector Rizwan, was formed to look for the suspects.
The SHO said that several relatives of the deceased had been questioned.
He said after over a month of investigation, police had arrested Asghar Zaman, son of the deceased, over suspicion. He said Zaman confessed to the killing during interrogation.
Zaman told police that his father had divorced his mother twice and often beat her. He said he and rest of the family had stopped him several times, but he did not stop.
He said he had developed a grudge against his father since the day he first divorced his mother. Zaman said he had asked his father to reconcile with his mother, but he had refused.
He said on the day of the incident, he had asked his father to accompany him to the cattle market and he had agreed.
He said when they reached Baseline, he shot his father dead and abandoned the body in a park in Kaleem Shaheed Colony. He said he then staged the incident as a robbery.
