LAHORE:

Counsel for the six Pakistani prisoners released from Bagram Prison told the Lahore High Court on Thursday that they were being kept in humiliating and unsanitary conditions at the Peshawar Central Jail.

Advocate Sarah Belal said the prisoners were on Monday allowed to meet their families and lawyers, on the court’s directions. She said they had told her that they had arrived in Rawalpindi and were later taken to Peshawar. This shows the government wanted to escape the LHC’s jurisdiction, she said. The prisoners said they had been forced to put their thumb impressions on blank papers. The court ordered the ministries of foreign affairs and interior to reply to the allegations by December 17.
