FAISALABAD:

Kidnappers killed a man kidnapped a week ago and abandoned the body in a field on Thursday despite payment of ransom, Chak Jhumra police said.

Three suspect kidnappers, including a woman, were arrested.

Family of the deceased staged demonstration to protest against the police, who, they said, had not taken their complaint seriously.

Muhammad Tanveer, a relative of the deceased, said Irfan Rasheed of Chak 188-RB, was abducted by unidentified abductors, who had demanded Rs1 million ransom.

He said Ifran had gotten married two years ago and had had a baby two months ago. He said after Ifran went missing, his family informed the police, but they failed to trace the kidnappers.

He said his family decided to negotiate with the kidnappers themselves. He said they had told the kidnappers that they did not have enough money.

“They brought their demand down to Rs450,000,” Tanveer said, adding that the money was paid on Wednesday.

He said the kidnappers had told them that Irfan would be released a few hours after they got their money. He said the family was told not to inform the police.

On Thursday, Tanveer said, Irfan was found killed in a field near Chak155-RB.

He said he had been shot several times in the back and his eyes removed.

The protesting relatives of the deceased blocked the Chak Jhumra Road and shouted slogans against the police.

The station house officer arrived on the scene and asked the protesters to stop. He informed them that three suspects had been agreed.

The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
