Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the secretaries for the Establishment, Finance Ministry and Law Ministry over the non-payment of judicial allowances to employees of federal courts including the accountability and banking courts.
The judge ordered the three secretaries to submit their replies by December 23.
The counsel for the petitioners, who are employees of lower courts, said that employees of the higher and superior courts were being paid about three times as much in judicial allowances as the basic salary of other court employees.
The lawyer argued that the petitioners did the same work as staff at the LHC, perhaps even more than them, but they were not paid the same benefits. He said that the court had already ruled that they were entitled to the judicial allowance, but the order had not been complied with.
