The family and relatives of a woman who died following a caesarian birth at a private hospital in Bahawalpur on Wednesday protested against the hospital administration and accused a doctor of negligence.
Rafiq Bhatti, one of the protestors, told The Express Tribune that his daughter, Shumaila, was taken to the hospital near Model Town C for delivery. “The doctor did not stitch her properly… she kept bleeding,” he said.
Bhatti said when the administration called the doctor who had operated her he was not available. “We took her to Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital (BVH) where doctors told us that her kidneys were not functioning.” Bhatti said she died at the hospital. The protestors blocked the main road in Islampura and demanded immediate action against Dr Farooq Mustafa who they said was responsible for the woman’s death. Rehan Gillani, the district police officer’s public relations officer, told the media that DPO Sohail Habib Tajik has constituted an investigation team.
