Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Senator Chaudhary Shujat Hussain and former deputy prime minister Chaudhary Parvez Elahi on Saturday said the government’s attitude was not in line with democratic principles.
Addressing a meeting of PML-Q workers, they said the government was ignoring the problems faced by common people. They said the National Assembly was being kept in the dark about the government’s plans to deal with issues like inflation, lawlessness and foreign affairs.
The meeting was attended by MPAs Amir Sultan Cheema, Ahmad Shah Khagga, Muhammad Afzal, Sardar Asif Nakai, Sardar Vickas Hassan Moakkal, Baasima Chaudhary and Jayeda Khalid.
PML-Q’s Punjab general secretary Chaudhary Zaheeruddin Khan, senior vice president Muhammad Basharat Raja and additional general secretary Nasir Mahmood Gill were also present. Participants of the meeting expressed concern over matters of national importance being ignored.
Speakers at the meeting said incidents of suicides due to extreme poverty were increasing. They said poor law and order situation had led to the death of hundreds of people since the government assumed office. “But these issues are never raised in the National Assembly,” they said.
The PML-Q leaders promised to raise the issues at Provincial and National Assembles.
They also threatened to protest if the situation did not improve. They said they were in contact with other opposition parties to take them on board.
They also said the opposition was being ignored in policy decisions.
