FAISALABAD: “My supporters and I would not sit idle. We will rid the country of corrupt politicians,” Tehreek-i-Minhaj-ul-Quran Chairman Tahirul Qadri said on Sunday.
Addressing a gathering of 20,000 people at Dhobi Ghaat here on Sunday, Qadri said that he was working only to bring about a visible change in the lives of the people by ensuring a transparent electoral process in consonance with the constitution.
Reiterating his allegation that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was constituted in an unconstitutional way, Qadri said that sabotaging the election process was not his agenda.
Instead, he added, his entire efforts were meant for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan.
He said a coterie of politicians had been sucking the masses’ blood for several decades and by deceiving them by providing them livelihood and welfare.
Once voted into power, he said, these politicians pursued their personal interests only.
He accused the chief minister of launching mega projects for personal gains.
He also criticised President Asif Ali Zardari for the federal government policies.
“It is very unfortunate to have the head of the state who is known to be corrupt”.
