Five returning officers have been appointed in the 26 union councils of Wazirabad tehsil and 60 wards of Wazirabad, Gakhar and Alipur Chattha for local elections, an Election Commission (EC) Gujranwala district spokesman told The Express Tribune.
He said arrangements had been completed for local government elections. He said training of returning officers in the district had ended successfully. The arrangements of receiving nomination papers had also been completed, he said.
Returning officers
To a question on arrangements in the 30 wards of the Wazirabad municipal committee, he said Assistant Commissioner Rao Muhammad Suhail Akhtar had been appointed the returning officer.
He said the Gulshan-i-Noreen TMO had been appointed as returning officer for Alipur Chattha municipal committee, and the Wazirabad Regualtion Tehsil Officer (TO) Sheraz Aslam appointed for 18 wards of Gakhar Mandi. Finance TO Junaid Iqbal Soya has been appointed as returning officer for Union Councils 1-7, TO Basharat Javed Bhatti for UCs 8-14, Agriculture deputy district officer (DDO) for UCs 15-20 and the Water Management DDO for UCs 21-26.
New nomination forms
The spokesman said that new nomination forms were being distributed among potential candidates. He said nominations forms were available in Wazirabad for all candidates, except for those who belonged to Gakhar Mandi.
He said 218 candidates had submitted their documents from 30 wards of Wazirabad city. He said they would have to file the nominations again. New candidates will submit their forms separately, he said. He said the new nomination forms were in Urdu.
ROs appointed for Pasrur’s 33 UCs
Four returning officers have been appointed for 33 union councils in Pasrur tehsil.
The Sialkot assistant revenue officer was appointed for UC 41-48, the deputy director (colleges) for UCs 49-56, and the Social Welfare district officer for UCs 57-64.
Pasrur Tehsil Municipal Administrator Fida Iftikhar Mir has been appointed the returning officer for the 26 wards of the tehsil’s municipal committee.
An EC spokesman said that candidates in Pasrur had appealed to the commission to allow them to submit their nomination forms in Pasrur, instead of Sialkot. They said it was difficult for candidates to travel to the EC offices in Sialkot.
