Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two gangs of robbers in separate incidents.
Dhallay police on Sunday arrested five members of a gang of robbers on a tip off.
They seized money, jewellery and weapons from them. SHO Hafiz Imtiaz said they had increased police patrolling following an increase in robbery complaints. He said the robbers had been wanted in three other robbery cases as well.
In a separate incident, Aroop Nagar police arrested three robbers red-handed. The men had robbed some citizens near Alipur Chowk and were trying to flee when the police arrived at the scene and shot at them. A shootout ensued and Shahid, one of the robbers, was injured and arrested. Another robber was also arrested shortly. CPO Raja Mukhtar and Civil Lines SP Shoaib Khurram Janbaz awarded the Aroop Nagar SHO Imran Saleem Rs10,000 and constables Shahid Nawaz and Waheed Murad, Rs5,000 rupees each. They were also given certificates.
