Two people were killed on Wednesday when a Peshawar-bound passenger van from Karachi overturned after being hit by a speeding truck on the Indus Highway near Afzalabad.
Rescue officials said the van rolled twice before it fell off the road.
Passers-by rushed to their rescue. The passengers were pulled out from the wreck. Two of them had already died. One of them was identified as Niaz Muhammad of Bajaur. Police said the second man had yet to be identified.
Another passenger, Abdul Hafeez, was severely injured. He was taken to the Rajanpur district headquarters hospital, where he was said to be in critical condition.
An FIR was registered against the truck driver. Police took the truck in their custody.
Man killed in motorcycle accident
In Khanpur, a man was killed and another was seriously injured after being hit by a passenger van. The accident happened on the National Highway, some 30 kilometres from Khanpur.
Rescue officials said Akram Pervaiz and his relative Mushtaq Ahmed were riding a motorcycle when a passenger van hit them near Mochiwala Hussainabad. Pervaiz died on the spot. Ahmed was taken to the Mianwali Qureshian rural health centre, where he was reported to be out of danger.
The van driver fled the scene.
An FIR was registered against him with Rukanpur police.
