Police on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended three out of four suspects in a rape-and-blackmail case involving a woman student of the University of Engineering and Technology.
Investigations SSP Chaudhry Abdul Rab told a press conference that Mughalpura police had registered an FIR under Sections 292 and 376 on the girl’s complaint on January 5. She had accused a class fellow and three others of sexually assaulting her, making videos of the incidents and threatening her with uploading it onto the internet.
The SSP said three of the suspects had been taken into custody and two laptops, three mobile phones, a USB and a camera had been seized.
The girl said her class fellow took her to a house near Masjid Mor, Baghbanpura, on January 30, 2013, “to meet his mother”.
However, she said, he was alone at the house. She said he raped her and made a video of the act.
She said that he then blackmailed her and forced her into illicit relations with two of his friends. She said they had threatened to upload the video on the internet and distribute it in the area where she lived.
She said her class fellow and two of his friends later raped her and made another video, forcing her to continue sexual relations with them. She said that after being constantly blackmailed and molested she had finally filed a complaint against the four men.
A senior police officer told The Express Tribune that only three people appeared to have been involved in the crime and the complainant “only thought that another man was involved”.
