Mass participation: Punjab Youth Festival tehsil competitions enter sixth day

LAHORE: 

As many as 82,880 people competed on the sixth day of the Punjab Youth Festival tehsil level games on Thursday.

As many as 24,273 people moved to the next round.

In Lahore’s Aziz Bhatti Town, 307 people participated in various events and 111 returned winners.

In the arm-wrestling event, Akbar was first and Waseem stood second.

Jamal won the badminton matches and Ramazan stood first in billiards.

In Gulberg Town, out of 48 qirat and naat participants, 11 were successful. Muhammad Ali won the qirat event and Muhammad Shaheer won the naat event.

In Iqbal Town, out of 84 players, 14 moved to the next round.

In Shalamar Town, 254 people participated and 43 were victorious.

In wrestling, Sajid won the first position and Khurram stood second.

In Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, 40 people participated in the games.

 photo 17_zps542374c1.jpgTeam Anees won basketball match. As many as 521 people participated in the games at Ravi Town and 187 moved onto the next round.

In bodybuilding, Umar took the first and Abid the second position.

In Samanabad, 74 people took part in various events and 10 were successful. Mazhar won the chess event.

Out of 252 players in Nishtar Town, 126 were victorious. Team Azeem won the cricket hardball event.

In Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum, 3,746 took part in various events and 274 moved to the next round.

In Bhakar, Khushab and Mianwali, 11,747 participated and 3,606 were triumphant.

In Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Narowal, 4,646 people participated and 1,742 were victorious.

In Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib, 20,559 athletes competed and 1,276 were winners.

In Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot districts, out of 3,099 players, 963 were victorious.

In Okara and Pakpattan, 4,931 players participated and 1,082 were winners.

In Lodhran, Vehari and Khanewal, out of 6,238 participants, 2944 were victorious.

In Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan, 4,562 athletes competed and 2,022 players won.

In Rajanpur, Layyah and Muzaffargarh, out of 1292 players, 562 emerged winners.

Healthy baby contest

The healthy baby contests were held at the population welfare office at Ferozepur.

A large number of children from Ravi and Gulberg Towns took part in the contests.

Among the Gulberg Town participants, Sameer was declared winner and Rawail and Raana Asif took second and third places. The top position from Ravi Town competition went to Hijab followed by Khizer and Ayan.

2,000 volunteers registered

As many as 2,000 volunteers were registered with the Punjab Sports Board on the second day of recruitments for Punjab Youth Festival 2014.

The registration will continue till February 10, 2014.

Classification Cell in charge Aneela Faisal said the interest shown by the youth was encouraging. She said more than 70,000 people were expected to register during the drive.
