The students of Anwarul Islam Middle School were all smiles on Monday, after media attention helped resolve a chronic furniture shortage in the building. In addition, two new rooms and a toilet have also been approved for the school in Chak Jalaluddin.
Education Executive District Officer (EDO) Qazi Zahoorul Haq said that after reading a report in this newspaper, the office of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan — the local MNA — contacted the DCO’s office for comment.
“Then DCO office referred the matter to me for investigation and I reported back to the interior ministry that the school is indeed facing a shortage of furniture and classrooms,” he said, adding that an order was then issued to provide the required furniture and for the expansion work.
“Thanks to your story and Chaudhry Nisar, we have been provided with furniture. The children are very happy just to be able to take classes while sitting at a desk,” said a beaming Zahir Shah, headmaster of Anwarul Islam Middle School.
