The district government will spend Rs78.68 million on the construction of extra classrooms in schools and renovation and rehabilitation of school buildings affected by floods, Highways District Officer Khalid Baloch said on Wednesday.
He was chairing a meeting to discuss plans for construction and renovation. He said additional classrooms would be constructed at both boys’ and girls’ high schools at an estimated cost of Rs13.62 million. Of these, he said, six schools had been selected in Jhang, three in Shorkot, two in Athara Hazari and one in Ahmedpur Sial.
He said two middle schools, one each in Jhang and Ahmedpur Sial, would be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs13 million. Buildings of 12 schools would be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs13.35 million.
Sixteen flood-hit schools would be rehabilitated at an estimated cost of Rs38.70 million. He said 10 flood-hit schools were in Jhang, three in Shorkot, two in Athara Hazari and one in Ahmedpur Sial.
The district officer said that construction work under these schemes would begin in the second week of February.
