The World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) on Tuesday organised the second annual National Art Competition at Ali Institute of Education to celebrate the World Wetlands Day.
More than 500 students participated from various institutions. The competition’s themes were Celebrating Shades of Nature and Wetlands. Students made paintings, 3-D models and collages. WWF-Pakistan Green School Programme Senior Officer Mahvish Azim Ilyas said “Wetlands are significant ecologically and economically. The event aims to share this information with students.” The programme is a campaign to engage students through events,and skill development workshops. Mishal Safdar, a volunteer from Lahore College for Women University, said “If such events were held by the government at a large scale they could produce desired results”.The competition will also be held in other Punjab cities, including Okara, Multan and Gujranwala.
World Wetlands Day marks the date a convention to conserve wetlands was adopted.
