FAISALABAD:

Hundreds of residents of Islampura on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against police for its failure to arrest four men accused of raping a girl in Saddar.

Muhammad Rasheed, one of the protestors, told the media that four robbers broke into *Sharif’s house in Mohalla Islampura on Tuesday night and robbed the residents at gunpoint. “They raped *Sharif’s daughter… and took away cash, jewellery and valuables,” he said. Rasheed alleged that Saddar police had demanded a bribe when they went there to file a complaint.

The protestors blocked the Faisalabad-Jaranwala Road and demanded that the suspects be immediately arrested.

The protest ended when Iqbal Town SP Zulfiqar Ahmad assured the protestors that the matter would be dealt in accordance with the law. Station House Officer (SHO) Saddar police said a case had been registered against the men. He said the suspects would be arrested soon. City Police Officer (CPO) Haidar Ashraf told The Express Tribune on Wednesday that a police team comprising Iqbal Town SP Zulfiqar Ahmad and Criminal Investigation Agency SP Farooq Hundal had been formed to arrest the suspects. He said DNA test of the girl would be conducted.
