LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge sought comments from Gulberg station house officer by March 8 in a petition filed by cricketer Umar Akmal seeking a case against a traffic warden who allegedly beat him.

Akmal has filed the complaint against warden Zeeshan 20 days after the incident was reported.

The warden has already filed a petition claiming assault by Akmal.

Akmal, in his petition, stated that he was going to Gulberg for a practice session. He said when he drove past the traffic signal at Firdous Market, Zeeshan intercepted him.

He said the traffic warden claimed that he had moved his vehicle before the signal turned green. Akmal claimed that was not so.

He said the warden asked him to handover the vehicle’s registration documents and his licence. He said he misbehaved with him and used abusive language.

He said then the warden pulled him out from his car and beat him, injuring his lip.

He told the court that he had visited the Gulberg SHO but he did not register a complaint.

He asked the court to direct the SHO to register case against the traffic warden for using derogatory language and beating him.

Earlier this month, a case was registered against Umar Akmal for speeding, threatening and beating Zeeshan. Akmal was also held in police custody for several hours and his car was confiscated.

A judicial magistrate later granted Akmal bail against Rs100,000 bonds.
