BAHAWALPUR:

“Educational scholarships worth Rs1.62 billion will be awarded to 28,000 students under the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund programme,” MPA Begum Fauzia Ayub Qureshi said on Wednesday.

Addressing a prize distribution ceremony at Government Girls’ Degree College, Bahawalpur, she said the scholarships would be given to students in 11 districts of the Punjab including Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Manager Rana Nasir Subhani said scholarships were awarded to students who took top positions in matriculation examinations in 2013.

He said, “Bright and hardworking students should make use of the programme.”

Subhani said as many as 5,000 students were awarded scholarships in the first phase. “The number has now gone up to 57,000,” he added.

He said the students were given scholarship cards and PIN codes.

He said the scholarship amount could be withdrawn from any branch of Punjab Bank.
