FAISALABAD:

A group of lawyers beat up two traffic wardens on Thursday after the traffic wardens reportedly misbehaved with two senior lawyers of the Jaranwala tehsil bar association.

Men from both sides later registered complaints against each other with the City Jaranwala police. No one was arrested.

Police said Advocates Ahmad Khan Niazi and Rana Ateequr Rehman were on their way to Nankana Sahib on their motorcycles when traffic wardens Imran Idrees and Asad Ali stopped them near Nankana Mor and asked them to produce their driving licences and registration documents.

Police said the lawyers introduced themselves, but the traffic wardens insisted that they be shown the papers.

This led to an argument between them and the traffic wardens apparently misbehaved.

Witnesses told the police that the lawyers called some other lawyers who came and beat up the lawyers. A police team was sent to the scene and stopped the lawyers. Men from both sides accompanied the police to file their complaints. The lawyers claimed that they were stopped without a reason or any traffic violation and misbehaved with, while the wardens said they were performing routine check on motorcyclists.

They said the lawyers abused them. The station house officer said that no one was arrested. He said a police team was investigating the case.
