GUJRANWALA:

The family of a woman who was apparently tortured to death protested against the police on Thursday for not registering an FIR in the case.

Sadaran Bibi, mother of the deceased, said her son-in-law Qaisar Sindhu had kidnapped his former wife Nazia Bibi on February 18. She said her later body was found by Peoples Colony police on Wednesday at Haidery Road.

She said when she approached the Ghakhar police to register a case, they ignored her.

She said Sindhu had divorced Nazia in September 2008. She said after the divorce, he used to call her and threaten her. She said Sindhu came to their house on February 18 and took Nazia away on gunpoint.

Sardaran Bibi said she had filed an application of the kidnapping at Gakhar police station but SHO Inspector Saleem refused to file a murder case against the suspect.

She said that she then wrote to the Gujranwala city police officer who had forwarded her application to the Ghakhar police but they did not take action on the matter.

Peoples Colony police said that Nazia was taken to a house at Haidery Road and was apparently beaten to death. They said that the woman was killed a week ago but was discovered on Wednesday.

The Gakhar station house officer told The Express Tribune that the murder FIR must be filed at the police station that recovered the body.

The family of the victim said that she had been kidnapped near Gakhar police station and that Ghakhar police should file a case.
