RAWALPINDI:

A man and his son, who were being treated at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) after being shot during a family dispute in Sadiqabad, died on Tuesday.

Dr Ali Gohar and his son Abdul Ghani had been shot and injured by Anjum, the father-in-law of Ali’s other son Dr Abdul Ghaffar, over a family dispute at Rahat hospital near Khana Phul. Ghaffar had been killed on the spot during the same incident.

Rawal Division Superintendent of Police Karamatullah said Dr Abdul Ghaffar contracted a second marriage by eloping with Dr Sumaira, who worked with him at a hospital in Islamabad.

He said that Ghaffar was from Sukkur district and had three children with his first wife.

Anjum and Dr Sumaira’s brother came to Ghaffar’s house along with six others to settle the dispute. But a brawl broke out at some point, after which Anjum and others started firing, killing Ghaffar on the spot and critically wounding Ali and Ghani, the SP said.

The SP said that a dispute occurred between Ghaffar and his first wife, after which she left him and started living with parents.

In the meanwhile, Ghaffar called his father Dr Ali and brother Ghani to look after his hospital, which was running losses.

Police teams have been constituted to arrest Anjum, Dr Sumaira and the other accused, who are all still at large.
