RAWALPINDI: Around 300 police officials in Rawalpindi were dismissed after they were found guilty of corruption.

The anti-corruption department had booked over 350 police officials in various corruption cases since 2013 and according to data provided by the Anti-Corruption Department, 250 cases were recruited on forged academic documents.

The documents available with The Express Tribune show that a total of 598 corruption cases were registered against officials from various government departments. Of these, 48 per cent were registered against police personnel, 20 per cent against revenue officials and the rest against officials in other departments.

“Out of 1,143 complaints registered since 2013, around 900 are against police and revenue officials,” said the official.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Mian Maqbool said most of cases were registered against officials who were recruited on forged documents.

An inquiry was ordered when the issue surfaced and around 300 police officials were dismissed after being found guilty,” he said, adding inquiries were under way against others and if found guilty of taking bribes, the cops will be punished according to the law. He said some of the recruitments go back 30 years, when illiterate people or those with limited schooling were also allowed to apply for police jobs.
