LAHORE:

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif  said on Saturday that the Punjab’s economy was on the  road to self-reliance through financial discipline, observance of austerity and the curtailing of non-developmental expenditures.

Sharif was speaking to a delegation of assembly members, PML-N office-bearers and workers from various districts at Raiwind.

Sharif said the available resources were being spent on the provision of basic facilities and on development in a transparent manner. He said mega projects in education, health, infrastructure and social development had been completed to the benefit of the people. Sharif expressed the hope that the government would live up to the expectations of the people.

Sharif said that development could only be achieved through adherence to merit and having a corruption-free system. He said everybody had a role to play in purging the society of corruption. He said all development projects in the Punjab had been completed in a transparent manner.

The chief minister cited the land record computerisation project as an important step towards eliminating corruption. The project will be completed this year.

Sharif said an educational fund had been set up on a permanent basis in Punjab. He said that talented students from other provinces and Azad Kashmir were also  benefiting from this fund.

The delegations expressed their appreciation of saying the chief minister had proved himself a true ‘khadim-i-Punjab’.
