LAHORE:

“Kinnaird’s history is guided by the vision to empower women through education,” said Kinnaird College principal Rukhsana David at the 76th convocation of the college held at its Amphitheatre on Wednesday.

She said that she hoped that the graduates will work towards making a difference in the society and contribute to its progress.

“We only hope that the students who graduate today live their lives in accordance to the motto of this institute: Light, Courage and Love,” she said.

She listed the achievements of students in the recent intermediate examinations. She said five top positions were held by students from the college.

Lady Caroline Best, the chief guest at the convocation and the great, great grand daughter of Lady Mary Kinnaird – a founding member of the college, also addressed the gathering.

“My journey to Pakistan started last year when I received a surprise email by Samar Gardezi seeking information regarding my ancestors,” she said.

Gardezi, secretary general of the Old Association of Kinnaird Students (OAKS) has written a two-volume book to commemorate the centennial celebrations.

Over 600 graduates were conferred undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas at the convocation.

As many as 355 girls received bachelor’s diplomas and 295 masters and Mphil diplomas.

The graduates were also awarded achievement certificates for outstanding performances in academics and sports.

Those who secured the highest CGPA in bachelor’s and intermediate programmes were also given medals.

Sixteen students received gold medals for excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities. Those securing a CGPA of 3.8 or above made it to the principal’s honour and merit lists. The latter had 41 students.
