LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge has sought comments from the Legal Affairs DSP on a petition seeking an attested copy of the FIR registered against Bhagat Singh for the murder of SSP Saunders in 1928.
Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, says he wants to plead Singh’s case in the Lahore High Court to have him declared innocent.
He says he has filed a writ petition in the LHC to re-open the case. Justice Shujat Ali Khan has referred the case to the chief justice asking him to constitute a larger bench.
Qureshi says that he needs an attested copy of the FIR registered against Bhagat Singh, Sukh Dev and Raj Guru for the murder of the Lahore SSP, in order to effectively plead their case. Qureshi says he had approached the Legal DSP, and had been shown some of the records from 1895 to 1927 but was unable to find the record of the FIR registered in 1928. He alleged that some police officials had been delaying the matter – one pretext after another.
He asked the court to direct the police deputy superintendent to produce the record and direct him to provide the petitioner with an attested copy of the FIR.
